Having left death and destruction behind at the Suez Canal in Egypt, Violet Harper is now enjoying a respite among the ancient ruins of Pompeii with her husband Sam, before they journey back home to England.  The populace is welcoming, the food inspiring, and the ancient ruins breathtaking. 

However, all is not as innocent and charming as it seems.  When antiquated, ash-covered bodies turn out to be disguises for thoroughly modern murders, Violet knows she has little time to uncover the secrets of the past and present to stop a killer from striking again.
