Violet Harper is no fan of burial clubs. These schemes, which take weekly payments to ensure the funeral expenses of the deceased will be paid for regardless of how long the person had been a member, are rife with malfeasance…both by the burial clubs themselves and the people who join them.
Despite her distaste for them, the undertaker could never imagine that a burial club might be responsible for outright murder to avoid paying out to a grieving family. But there are whispers in the soot-filled London air that that is indeed what is happening with one particular cash-strapped club.
Outraged by the possibility, Violet investigates. She is shocked to learn, though, that the allegations against the burial club are only the beginning of a deadly conspiracy to cover up a host of other crimes.
